Family Visit

Well, last night we had Rodney's mum, his sister and brother-in-law to stay the night. Christine & Ian have come over from Cairns and are travelling around the deep south with Iris for the next week. I think they've picked the wrong week.....the forecast is for snow in that neck of the woods at the end of the week. Ian is an Aussie through and through and Christine is very much used to the weather there so they are gonna find it cold! They're coming back via our place next Monday so we'll have the survival blankets at the ready!

It was a wee adventure for Rodney and I as well slept in the lounge leaving the beds for the visitors. I must say the couch is actually quite comfortable (should I ever have to sleep there again!).

Back to the usual today although it's taking me a while to get started. I better get onto some craft work shortly.

Rather than poach Beck's photos of us at scrap camp here is a link to her blog where she has posted pics of us in our fairy wings and various other items of costume. :-) http:beckcaithness.blogspot.com/2010/08/wednesday-weigh-in-and-scrap-camp.html.

Catch you later.

Weekend at Raincliff

Well, our last Raincliff (hopefully not!) is over. What a blast. We were talking about how many camps there have been and who had been to all of them. Apart from Rachel F, only two scrappers have been to all 8 - Nic B and Deirdre. Legends. Of course, I wasn't around for the first one and didn't even know about the second one, but I've been to all 6 since starting with just a day trip and graduating up to the full weekend. I've managed to forget to bring something each time; first it was my sleeping bag, then soap (an ice-cold shower is bad enough but without soap?? Argh!), then a pillow (not so bad) and a towel (managed to borrow one) and this time I left my cutting mat behind. Fortunately Becks took 2!

So. To my efforts of the weekend. My main project was supposed to be the mini village that was a class at SENZ back in July. But I wasn't happy with my efforts after 2 hours of hard yakka, so I took the advice of the girls and went to something else. And I never looked back. Four layouts later I was a happy scrapper and to top it off I won the spot prize for page of the weekend. Lots of goodies to play with.....Thanks so much Rach.

My pages feature my youngest neice and nephew - both from my sister's whanau - Rachel and Henry. I have already done a few featuring Rachel, but my mum was disappointed that I hadn't used pink as that is Rachel's favourite colour. So I went for a total pink-out. I hope you like the results. Spot the gorgeous Dusty Attic Bird of Paradise die-cut.

Next up is using Prima's Paintables paper which was part of the make n take. The only rule was we had to include some or all of the Paintables sheet. My first real "boy" page and I was rather rapt with the results. I hope you can see all the elements in there, including the Dusty Attic "Chicken Wire" hopefully masquerading as a fishing net. :-)

I liked the Prima paper so much I decided to do a matching one for Rachel, again featuring her favourite colour and the DA Bird. I had managed to keep just enough of the flowers to make it a girly-girl page.

Last up was the second Henry page. This one, like the first Rachel page, has used Heidi Swapp's Invisibles paper. Not so many embellishments to hand for this but thankfully Becks had her Tim Holtz Sprocket die-cut. It came in very handy several times over!

So camp is over. Back to the real world of searching for a job. Fluffy Bum will be in seventh heaven this week as Rodney is home for two weeks holiday so she's got her mum AND dad to hassle for food!

Have a great week.

Spring is here

Well, if not officially it certainly does feel like it at the moment. Yesterday and today such beautiful sunny days and I really don't feel like doing much but sitting in the sun. :-) Only the one job rejection so far this week. I've applied for another one so I'm still 'in the black'.

Totally looking forward to this weekend; scrap camp at Raincliff. Hopefully not the last one ever, but all the same it's going to be a blast. Can't wait. A whole weekend of scrappin', chattin', singin' (sort of!), drinkin', eatin', and more scrappin'.

I have a bunch of new earrings that I've made over the last few weeks and they will be up on my Facebook page and the website very soon. Hopefully something for everyone. My earring holder (in the shop) is getting a bit full now! Depending on what else happens this week I'll maybe have some matching necklaces/bracelets.

I'm on the home straight with the wedding invites, etc. I hope you liked my pics.

If you're a Timaruvian, did you spot my ad in the paper last Friday?? If you bring that ad when you come visit the shop you'll qualify for a half price discount on any of the jewellery (if there's nothing to your taste I will make to measure).

Have a happy week.

Cheers,
K

Baby Pink

As promised, here are some pics of the invitations.

The papers are Cristina Re "Blush" and a generic silver. I've used a sparkly silver embossing powder for the rings and heart design.

I've photoshopped in the words because I'd already delivered the invites before I took the pics. So they're not exact, but pretty close. A very nice font called Schwarzwald for the main part and Scriptina for the names. (The couple didn't want to handwrite the names).

Having a go

Daytime tv.....currently watching Jeremy Kyle while waiting for a Grey's re-run. Help! I need to get out of here. (just kidding).

Anyway, the reason for my post is to "announce" I'm gonna try and get on the Southern Girls Challenge design team and this is my entry. It's the bookcase I made for my neice Claire's 21st.

And a BTW: no further job rejects this week so that's some good news. :-)

I promise to get the wedding invites posted by tomorrow; handed them over to the bride last night and she was a very happy girl. :-)

A new week - a new resolve?

So far this week has not been overly uplifting - I had two job rejections today. Not that I really itched for either of them (one was in Ashburton the other 15 hours a week) but I need to find something soon. On the other hand, I delivered 3 CVs so I 'spose I'm still up one. Ho hum.

I have spent the afternoon and most of the evening working on the invites....down to the last bit of embossing (powder & heat).

Now watching Braveheart. One of my most fave movies of all time. Lost count of how many times I've watched it although it has been quite a while since the last viewing. I've sort of gone off Mel lately -his personal life has been amongst the gossip columns too much - but this movie was back when he was still reasonably sexy and it's a damn good movie. :-)

Have a great week.

Cheers,
K

BF Part 2

Got the pic sorted so here is the other version of the necklace I mentioned earlier today.

Black Friday

Well, I had hoped by now I'd have good news for you on the job front but no. Another one down the gurgler today. Still, I have a few I'm waiting to hear from so all is not lost. Yet.

On the craft front I've done not a 'scrap' (haha get it) of scrapbooking unless you count the wedding invites I'm working on. They are about 50% done. I'll post a sample once I've handed them over to the future bride and her partner.

I have been working on some jewellery this week. A new design that I quite like and works in various sizes so hopefully something for all tastes. This one I am donating to Abby for her raffle. So make sure you buy a ticket!!! I will make another one for selling so don't fret if you miss out. :-)

I also have one of these with Pink Pearls and Black wire. The photo is a bit blurry so I'll try again with the tripod later. I've got some lovely Ruby and Amethyst crystals to try out as well. Maybe even a Topaz. Let me know what you think. :-)
Here's hoping your Black Friday hasn't been too dreary and your weekend will get off to a great start.

Another week gone

Yep. Yet another week of unemployment has gone by. I have applied for two further jobs this week; both are part time.
The interesting one is a complete change of vocation for me. An orderly at the hospital! I've not even considered something like before, but when I thought about it, it didn't seem like a bad job. A great way to keep fit and stay warm while you do it and you get to meet a lot of people. Having been on the 'receiving' end of hospital orderlies - both good and bad - I kind of know some of the right things to do. Knocking a patient's bed against a door frame while in transit is not! Yes, I had that happen to me once and by the time I got to the final destination I was in tears. But I digress.
Fluffy Bum has been great company during the days....not always at me for food but most of the time.
On the craft side, I've not done any further scrapping - although I hope to remedy that situation over the weekend - but I have been busy sorting out the 'ingredients' for the wedding invitations and jewellery that I am doing for a future bride. Also trying a couple of new ideas in the jewellery line. Hope to post something here in the next day or so.
Have a great weekend.
Cheers,
Kath
